Building Self-Confidence

It can be painful and unpleasant to have low self-esteem. The objective of this article is not to encourage you to boost your self-confidence to the extreme, where others may consider you self-centered or even vain. Rather, the intention is to inspire you to build a healthy foundation of self-confidence to support happiness and wellbeing.

So, what is self-confidence?

Past achievements make for trust in your abilities, which is comforting. May it be that you have done well at school or you're a skilled sportsman.

Self-confidence can also stem from being popular or liked by friends. Other examples include someone who is really attractive or has a big personality. The end result is able-mindedness and a sense of ease, while an inconfident individual feels insecure.

How To Be Self-Confident

Everyone has the potential to boost his or her self-confidence. Never listen to anyone who says otherwise.

Now, grab a pen and paper and write down all the things you're good at, know well and have achieved in your life. There is no rush, you can work on the list over time.

Include all your good qualities and everything you like about yourself, even beautiful body parts such as the hair, eyes, nose, skin, hands, fingers or nails.

Be really honest with yourself, since true personal growth cannot spring out of lies and wishful thinking.

Next, pick out the items that mean the most to you and post them on colorful notes round the house. For example on the bathroom mirror, the fridge and by the bed. Or use plain paper and make the extra effort to write with nice handwriting.

Cars, computers, mobile phones and calendars are also great places for posting. Be creative and enjoy the process.

Every time the notes come into view, read them wholeheartedly. That will remind you of your abilities and beautiful qualities. You can also reflect on them in your free time.

Be persistent, and gradually you will change the way you perceive yourself. Self-confidence will start to bloom...

Another method is to listen to what is called subliminal messages, which can boost both confidence and motivation. Whichever approach you choose, make sure you're persistent and think long-term.

Don't Believe In The Negative Comments

Have you ever been lectured on your weak points? Regardless whether you've been bullied or not, don't believe what they say. Often times, people try to put you down simply because you threaten their position in the group.

Do not take disrespectful comments to heart and don't get stuck in negative thinking about yourself. Moreover, others' opinions cannot affect who you truly are. That will never change.

Believe in yourself, have trust in yourself. You can do it!
