Relaxing Meditation Music

In this post we'll take a look at the positive and negative effects meditation music can have on the body and mind.

Back in the late 90s I was really into meditating to music including classical music, contemporary meditation music, shakuhachi flute, space and nature sounds.

Let's start out by taking a look at the most obvious pros of meditating to relaxation music. For one, soothing meditation music has a calming affect on the body and mind.

In my experience it doesn't matter what kind of meditation music you listen to. It's much more important that you resonate with it.

While living in the UK I meditated mostly to modern meditation music. A name I recall off hand is Michael Hammer.

Soothing Meditation Music

If you're leading a stressful and busy lifestyle, I recommend getting some meditation music that you really like. Then all you have to do is make yourself unavailable, lie down, press play and close your eyes. Relax and enjoy the soothing sounds.

Source Of Inspiration

When I meditated to space and nature sounds I found that it inspired and lifted me up. The music also made it more fun to meditate. I enjoy shakuhachi flute and contemporary meditation music as well, but I find there's something magical about connecting with nature.

The only negative effect of meditation music I can think of would be that the music can be distracting. So, if you're having a bad day and find yourself getting easily distracted, lie down, relax and become one with the silence. On the other hand, if you're in the mood to meditate to the sound of crashing waves, do it.

After years of meditation practice I mostly meditate without any background music. I find that silence also has a calming affect on the mind, however, sometimes I put the cd player to work and let the music inspire me.

Here are some useful links to Michael Hammer, space sounds, nature sounds and vibrant shakuhachi flute.

Best of luck!
