It's important that you have good intentions with your spiritual practice. For example, if you meditate in order to overcome unpleasant emotions and childhood traumas, your intentions are wholesome.
As you may already know, spiritual practice purifies the mind. A common example would be the angry or irritable individual that develops warmth and patience. Hence, morality is one of the cornerstones of spiritual practice.
Another vital component is awareness, which includes awareness of your own feelings and thoughts as well as what is going on around you. The combination of morality and awareness make for a divine tool.
True spiritual practice has nothing to do with your outer appearance, you can dress in any clothes you like. What truly matters is your mental state. Awareness and a selfless attitude form the very foundation of true spiritual practice. That's the very path to wisdom and lasting happiness.
Best of luck!
