The Most Important Thing In Life

In this post we'll dive into the deep end of the pool to explore what is truly important in life. Since it's so easy to get stuck in laziness and habits, the article serves as a wake up call and encouragement – let's lead meaningful lives!

What is the most important thing in your life? Take a moment to think about it...

When I was younger my focus in life was my career, status, success, making money, materialism, flying, traveling, adventure, writing music, alcohol, my family, friends, love, finding an attractive girlfriend and sex. Does it sound familiar?

I would say that the vast majority of people that have the basic necessities in life, such as food and a roof over their head, are obsessed with the same things. Obsessed, as in repeatedly thinking about it on a subconscious level. Hobbies and interests may vary from person to person, but we all share the same human instincts and desires. Who doesn't want to be loved, successful and bathe in pleasure?

It's possible to be happy with less.

Ask yourself, does this article inspire me or challenge my values and ideals? The answer says a lot about where you're at in your personal development. But don't be hard on yourself. If you would like to change the way you live your life, I suggest you do it step by step. That way it won't be overwhelming.

What Is Truly Important In Life?

Let's do an experiment. Imagine you're on your deathbed and your children ask you to share your wisdom with them. What would you say? You're really weak, so you have no choice but to sum it up in one word.

Twenty years ago, I would have said pleasure, as in enjoy life to its fullest. Isn't it true that we demand endless pleasure from life?

Today, I would say mindfulness. Did you know that the Buddha's last words before passing away were, "Strive on mindfully."

What Are The Benefits Of Mindfulness?

When you're aware of your feelings and thoughts, it's unlikely that you will hurt anyone's feelings. That alone, makes awareness a beautiful tool. While being mindful it's natural to let go of lingering thoughts such as disappointment and anger, which is truly liberating. Mindfulness is also a most soothing and calming mental state. To be mindful is like being nurtured with pure love, from deep within. To top it off, everyone you meet benefits from your skillful and calm presence.

Mindfulness is lasting happiness.

When you put thinking aside and give relaxed attention to your meditation object, you grow in awareness and develop wisdom. You gradually uncover the truth about yourself, which is like seeing your good and bad qualities in broad daylight. Becoming a better person, is then simply a matter of bringing more awareness into everyday situations.

So, what kind of life would you like to live? To demand as much pleasure out of life as possible or live in the present moment?

Best of luck!
