How To Improve Focus And Attention


You have probably been in situations where you need to focus on work, only to find yourself distracted by annoying sounds or your own thoughts. It's frustrating that the attention is divided when you really need to get thing done.

In this post, we'll take a look at some powerful yet simple pointers that support concentration. It's good to know that your mental performance naturally fluctuates throughout the day, and that you have everything to gain by being patient with yourself, but more on that in just a minute.

To make it easier to focus, refrain from engaging in daydreaming or aimless thought activity. That means putting your private life aside while working, which is not the right time to ponder over personal problems.

Whenever it's practical, avoid working on multiple projects simultaneously. Keep everything as simple as possible and only focus on one thing at the time. Not only does that make it easier to concentrate, it also leads to less restlessness and stress.

Another big issue when it comes to concentration, are distractions. The top ones include disturbing noises, loud music, voices, people wanting to see you, phone calls and the internet. By doing away with the most challenging distractions, it's much easier to focus and work productively.

One way to go about it, is to work wherever it's quiet and where you won't be disturbed. May it be in your basement or at the local library. What is more, never hesitate to switch off your cell phone and work offline whenever it's possible.

It doesn't make any sense to work non-stop for hours and hours without breaks, food and beverages. Always nourish your body and mind by scheduling regular breaks featuring gentle stretching, fresh air, short walks, healthy meals and fluids. In addition, parting with the computer relaxes your neck, shoulders, back and wrists, not to mention the eyes.

Quality sleep also supports concentration, so give it a high priority. I'm sure you have experienced how hard it is to think straight after a poor night's sleep. Since the mind dwells in the physical body, you should nurture your body like a little baby.

Mindfulness practice is a wonderful way to cultivate focus and attention. It takes dedicated practice to be able to be mindful throughout the day, but it's well worth the effort. Not only does mindfulness lead to steadfast attention, it also makes for a soothing mental state.

Remember that an agitated mind is out of balance, like turbulent air.
